'A bull in the china shop': Not all Republicans are pleased with Trump's first week
Depending on who you ask, Donald Trump's return to office was either "fantastic or frightening," according to CNN anchor John King, who spoke to nearly 100 voters to gauge how the nation was feeling at the end of his first week. But even voters who said they were excited about some of Trump's policies worried that by Friday, the president seemed "like a bull in a China shop."Predictably, most of the voters who identified themselves as Republicans found Trump's straight-out-of-the-gate style kicking off his second term, "refreshing," while at least one Democrat called him "unhinged."Then there were the "middle-ground" voters King spoke with. He quoted one business owner from a Philadelphia suburb who cast her ballot for Trump because she liked his promises to cut taxes and reduce regulations.ALSO READ: Inside the parade of right-wing world leaders flocking to D.C. for Trump's inauguration“On the one hand, I am glad he is cleaning up the mess Biden left, both domestically and foreign,” said Linda Rooney. “But I wish he would use more discernment. Not all of the January 6 people should have been pardoned. It was an attack on our democracy and on our elected leadership.”Rooney continued, “I was optimistically hopeful after the election, but I feel he is like a bull in the china shop. Or that he’s using a sledgehammer where finer instruments are called for.”Another Trump supporter, Debbie Katsanos from New Hampshire, told King that many of the J6 insurrectionists who were convicted had been "charged with more serious offenses than they deserved." She did disagree with Trump's decision to free even the violent offenders, though, saying that "'anyone justly convicted of true violence' deserved to be punished if their sentence was fair."An Iowa man named Chris Mudd told King via text, "I like what I see so far. Ending DEI is good. I like the pardons for the J6ers. I don’t think I will like everything, but you have to take the good with the less good.”Read the article here via CNN.com.
