The Ukrainian Air Force Command reported another success in air defense, as the Ukrainian air defenders intercepted and destroyed Russia’s six Shahed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the dark hours of 24 October.
The Russian air assault carried out overnight the deployment of the Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 one-way attack drones from the southern direction, namely from the Cape Chauda in the temporarily occupied Crimea peninsula. The drones moved south to the west across the southern region of Mykolav, the central oblast of Vinnytsia, and the western Khmelnytskyi region.
“All six attack drones were destroyed by air defense forces, [including] fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, and mobile fire groups in Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Mykolaiv oblasts,” the Air Force wrote.
A day earlier, Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed all 14 UAVs and an aviation missile launched by Russian forces in the early hours of 23 October. In the 23 October attack, the Russians used 13 Shahed-136/131 drones also launched from Crimea’s Chauda, one unidentified strike drone launched from the north, and deployed a Kh-59 air-launched guided missile from a Su-34 aircraft in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, according to Ukraine’s Air Force.
