Texas Rep. Colin Allred (D) released a new ad Friday pushing back against incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz (R) in response to three Republican ads slamming him over transgender policies.
“Ted Cruz is lying again, but now he's lying about our children. I'm a dad. I'm also a Christian,” Allred said on camera.
Cruz's ad says Allred voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 and argues that he is in favor of co-ed bathrooms. The Democratic Senate candidate clarified his stance.
“My faith has taught me that all kids are God's kids. So let me be clear. I don't want boys playing girls sports or any of this ridiculous stuff that Ted Cruz is saying,” he continued.
The former NFL linebacker and civil rights lawyer has raised more than $68 million for his Senate campaign with almost half of that coming from donations made in the past three months. Cruz reported $21 million in fundraising for the same three month period.
“Ted Cruz is lying about my record because he can't defend his own. He's done nothing to secure the border,” Allred stated. “He wants to raise the retirement age for social security. He's full of it. You know that. I'm calling all.”
The Lone Star State will be crucial to determining which party controls the Senate. Cruz has a 2.7 percentage point lead over Allred based on 36 poll averages.
