These offices, once fully operational in the coming weeks, will assist and guide migrants and refugees toward authorized channels of lawful migration. This pioneering initiative, with offices already in operation in Colombia, Costa Rica, and Guatemala, streamlines access to lawful pathways to the United States and other countries, including expedited refugee processing and various humanitarian and employment opportunities. During its initial phase, Ecuador’s SMO services will prioritize Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, Venezuelan, and Colombian nationals present in Ecuador as of October 18 and who qualify as asylum petitioners or have registered with Ecuador’s Ministry of Interior for a Certificate of Migratory Permanence.
