Australia pledges $12.7 mn in new military aid to Ukraine

On 25 October, the Australian Defence Department announced a new $20 million Australian dollar (over $12.7 million USD) military aid package for Ukraine, Australian Defence Ministers reported

The package includes bomb disposal equipment, portable x-ray machines, a 3D printer for metal, and counter-drone systems, the department said on its official portal.

“Australia remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion,” said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in a statement.

Additionally, Australia has deployed its E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft to Germany in support of multinational efforts to protect humanitarian and military supply lines flowing into Ukraine, the department said. The deployment of this aircraft delivers on the Government’s commitment made ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the NATO Summit in Vilnius.

In addition, up to 100 Australian Defence Force personnel have deployed with the aircraft. According to the statement, E-7A Wedgetail will not operate inside Russian, Belarusian or Ukrainian airspace.

Australia’s total support for Ukraine stands at approximately $910 million USD, including Bushmaster armoured vehicles, heavy artillery, ammunition and contributions to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
