Biden proposes changes that increase chances of assistance to Ukraine – Bloomberg

US President Joe Biden has proposed changing US border policy, raising the prospect of a bipartisan deal to help Ukraine.

Details: According to the article, Republicans convened in private to assess the verbal proposal, which surfaced following Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas's nearly two-hour-long meeting with senators on 12 December.

According to Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, the proposal would grant the president greater authority to deport immigrants after a predetermined number of unauthorised immigrants cross the border. However, radical Republicans believe the plan doesn’t go far enough.

Biden's immigration plan is presently being considered by Republican senators. Republicans are obliged to investigate the seriousness of these proposals, Tillis pointed out.

Republicans in the Senate and House are demanding tougher immigration controls before they will approve an additional US$106 billion in aid, more than US$61 billion of which is earmarked for Ukraine.
