In a bid to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced a new military aid package.

Canada to send ammunition for Ukraine in new $ 47 million military aid package

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair stated that Ottawa will send a $47 million military aid package to Ukraine, which will include small arms, ammunition, and protective gear, according to Reuters.

Following Russia’s invasion in February 2022, Canada has already allocated over $3 billion in military assistance for Ukraine.

“The military assistance announced today provides Ukraine with important resources needed to defend itself against Russian aggression. Canada will continue to do what it takes to help them achieve victory,” Blair said.

The new aid package, which also includes funding for training Ukrainian troops, is part of military funding of over $362 million that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged in July.

Earlier, Canada allowed Ukraine to use Canadian-supplied military equipment, including tanks and armored vehicles, on Russian territory.

“Ukrainians know best how to defend their homeland, and we aim to support their capability,” said André-Anne Poulin, a spokesperson for the Canadian Ministry of Defense.

Canada allows Ukraine to use its weapons in Russia

The statement came following Ukraine’s incursion in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. While it’s unclear if Canadian weapons were used in this operation, media footage showed a Canadian-made Senator patrol vehicle crossing the border into Russia in August 2024.
