The Chief of Defense Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba arrived in Algiers, Algeria for military and bilateral meetings.

Gen. Kainerugaba, who is accompanied by top UPDF Generals including Maj Gen James Birungi, the Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security, Maj Gen Bob Ogiki, Joint Staff Policy and Strategy, and Maj Gen Keith Katungi, the 5th Division Infantry Commander, was received by top Algerian military officials, as well as Uganda’s ambassador to Algeria Hon Alintuma Nsambu.

Gen. Kainerugaba is expected to hold talks with his counterpart General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army of Algeria.

Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, will also meet several other senior military leaders from the Algerian Military.

His three-days visit to the North African country is aimed at bolstering bilateral and military relations.

Algeria, one of Uganda’s strategic defense and trade partner on the continent, invited Gen Muhoozi.
The details of Gen Muhoozi’s mission in Algeria isn’t very clear but it is known that Algeria and Uganda have built strong security and defense partnerships over the recent years, on top of increasing trade opportunities.
Gen Muhoozi, has in recent years increased his presence and stature on the international scene, and possibly is now one of the most recognized Ugandan government leaders, save for his father Gen Yoweri Museveni.
Like his father, CDF Muhoozi is known for his ambitious agenda of building the strongest military force in Uganda and has dedicated his life to that mission.
