Energoatom director on Zaporizhzhia NPP: There is no plant, it is a military base

Quote from Kotin: "There is practically no plant. There is a military base there, with military personnel and incomprehensible staff."

Details: Petro Kotin emphasised that the transmission of data on what is happening at the ZNPP must resume as soon as possible to the official operator Energoatom, the state regulator and the IAEA.

Kotin added that the ZNPP had not had a single incident in 40 years of operation while it was controlled by Ukraine. However, after the Russians seized it, it became a threat.

Background:

  • The IAEA is calling for the immediate withdrawal of the Russian military and other personnel from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and the return of the plant to the control of the Ukrainian authorities to ensure its safety.
  • The ZNPP was repairing one of its six reactors after a small water leak was detected from an impulse line, which is part of the reactor's cooling pump support system.
