Details: Kalmus made her statements against the background of an increase in the number of border crossings at the Narva checkpoint after Finland closed its checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation.
Now the Estonian-Russian border is crossed by an average of 1,000 more people per week than before Finland’s decision.
Kalmus notes that Estonia can follow the example of Finland.
"We ask you not to go to Russia. Those who have already left for the Russian Federation may be at an impasse when it will be very difficult to return," she said.
According to Kalmus, such a decision can be made very quickly: checkpoints on the Estonian border can be closed within an hour after the government's decision.
Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has warned Estonians against signing "declarations of loyalty" to Russia, which Moscow now requires for entry because doing so could have serious consequences for such a person in Estonia.
