In a joint statement after the EU-Canada summit, Brussels and Ottawa said Russia must cease its aggression against Ukraine and pay for damage inflicted on the country during the war.
Canada and the EU said that”decisive progress” is needed on how any extraordinary revenues held by private entities stemming directly from Russia’s immobilized assets could be directed to support Ukraine and its recovery and reconstruction.
Canada and the EU also said they remain “committed to further strengthening our cooperation and coordination on broader sanctions actions, including disrupting circumvention, in support of our policy objectives.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada would provide Ukraine with more than 11,000 assault rifles and ammunition.
Besides assault rifles for Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Canada would donate nine million rounds of ammunition manufactured by Colt Company, based in Canada’s Ontario, Justin Trudeau announced during a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
