Finland is going to make a major decision in the coming weeks to increase the production of artillery ammunition for Ukraine, the country’s Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen told Iltalante.
“We have completed negotiations on how Finland will further increase the production of hard ammunition to arm Ukraine. This decision will be made very soon,” Häkkänen said.
He stressed the decision on the matter is likely to be taken before Christmas.
“The plans are ready […] to increase ammunition production significantly. The intention is to support Ukraine even more strongly than at present,” Häkkänen said.
The price tag for increasing the production of ammunition runs into tens of millions of euros, according to Häkkänen.
On 17 November, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö approved the country’s 20th military aid package for Ukraine.
