Quote: "There was no such thing, and this is an absolute lie," he said, adding that the Georgian government is following international sanctions.
"Therefore, any claims that may contain a hint that [Russia] is circumventing sanctions with Georgia’s help is an absolute lie. Unfortunately, some media in Georgia, NGOs and political parties have been spreading disinformation against Georgia for the past year and a half. This is not the first time we have heard direct statements or hints that sanctions are being circumvented," Papuashvili said.
The US State Department announced in the summer that Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates, and Armenia have been identified by the United States as the five countries helping Russia evade Western sanctions.
Georgia is seeking to obtain EU accession candidate status. The European Union expects that countries seeking to become members will coordinate their foreign policy with the EU, in particular on the issue of sanctions.
Recently, the German broadcaster DW said it had found loopholes through which Russians circumvent sanctions in Georgia.
