German Defense Minister announces €500 million military aid package for Ukraine

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine totaling €500 million. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the Ramstein format on 19 March.

This comes after the Weimar Triangle meeting in Berlin, where the leaders of France, Germany, and Poland agreed to boost Ukraine’s military support with more weapons, expanded equipment production, and a rocket artillery coalition.

The planned supplies include 10,000 artillery shells from the Bundeswehr’s stocks, 100 armored vehicles for the infantry, and 100 transport vehicles.

Germany will also finance the purchase of 180,000 artillery shells through the Czech-led initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine, the minister revealed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz signed a Ukraine-Germany long-term security agreement in February, underscoring Germany’s further support in Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression.
