Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday questioned Republicans who take issue with former President Trump’s “rhetoric” and have decided to back Vice President Harris’s presidential bid instead.
“To every Republican supporting her, what the hell are you doing? You're supporting the most radical nominee in the history of American politics,” Graham said in an interview on NBC News's “Meet the Press,” naming progressive policies the vice president once backed — including "Medicare for All" and the Green New Deal.
Graham called Harris the “border czar” and referred to the vice president’s previous statement touting that she was the last person in the room with President Biden before he decided to withdraw from Afghanistan. He also noted she cast the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act.
“What are you doing? You're trying to convince me that Donald Trump's rhetoric is the danger to this country? The danger to this country is the policies of Biden and Harris. Her fingerprints are all over this disaster. And I can't take four more years of this crap.”
“When you support her, you're supporting four more years of garbage policy,” he said. “So what the hell are you doing as a Republican, blessing this stuff?”
The Hill has reached out to the Harris campaign for a response.
The interview comes a few weeks before Election Day, as early voting is already underway in key states around the country.
As the campaigns ramp up, Harris has highlighted her strong support from Republicans in the race, which has seen the vice president strike a significantly more moderate posture than she did in 2019.
In the Sunday interview, NBC host Kristen Welker pressed Graham on warnings from members of the Trump administration who have characterized the former president as a threat to the republic. She specifically asked about Retired Gen. Mark Milley, Trump’s chair of the Joint Chiefs, who recently told renowned journalist Bob Woodward that Trump is “fascist to the core,” according to his latest book.
“To General Milley, you have a right to your opinion, but I don't fear Donald Trump,” Graham said in the interview, in response to Milley’s remarks. “I fear what's going on in the world today. If you want the world to stay on fire, vote for her.”
