Heavy snowfall leaves 2,000 Ukrainian towns in the dark

As of the morning of 27 November, over 2,000 settlements in 16 oblasts of Ukraine have lost power and road traffic is blocked due to bad weather conditions, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, due to bad weather schools in Kyiv Oblast work remotely on 27 November trucks were prohibited from entering the city.
“The weather will deteriorate. Due to heavy snowfall, traffic on the roads may be hampered,” Kyiv Administration reported.
The security service of Ukraine reported that traffic is blocked on 14 highways across Ukraine. The most difficult situation is in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy and Kirovohrad oblasts. Several roads in the Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts were closed due to heavy snow and low visibility.
In particular, in Odesa Oblast snow depths reach one and a half meters. Ukraine’s border guards evacuated 42 people, including 10 children, from buses near the village of Udobne in the oblast. Over 500 vehicles were towed, including 14 buses and 12 emergency vehicles.
In Mykolaiv Oblast traffic is blocked on 10 sections of roads, with snowdrifts of up to 2 meters.
In Cherkasy Oblast, about 40 trucks were stopped for a while. Rescuers deployed mobile heating stations. In Kirovograd Oblast, about 30 trucks are standing on the roadside and over 160 vehicles have been towed away.
As of the evening of 26 November, about 400 settlements in ten oblasts of Ukraine remained without electricity due to bad weather, Zelesnkyy said during his evening address.
In addition, heavy winds at a speed of 144 km/h were recorded in Crimea overnight into 26 November, leaving four people injured and one missing, Krym.Realii reported. Dozens of settlements on the occupied peninsula were left without electricity. Several rivers have flooded, leading to evacuations of residents, according to the local Telegram channel, the Crimean Wind.
