How can police prevent attacks like the one in New Orleans?
Fourteen died and dozens more were injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans' Canal and Bourbon Streets.
To prevent attacks like the one in New Orleans, former Secret Service agent Donald Lane says law enforcement should block crowded areas and events with a vehicle.
"You also need police officers around that area to make sure that if anybody attempts to or crashes through to try to breach these things, that you have a plan of action immediately to address it," Lane told "NewsNation Live."
His advice comes just days after 14 people were killed and dozens more injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans' Canal and Bourbon Streets.
The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was fatally shot by police. The attack came toward the end of New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans and hours before the kickoff of the Allstate Sugar Bowl between the University of
Lane said events such as the Sugar Bowl should be set up far away from traffic so police can better vet people on foot and because it prevents a vehicle from entering the area.
However, Lane added, "If you have the motivation of someone who's willing to die in the course of carrying out one of these disgusting events, there's only so much you can do at some point."
