Details: The Israeli military said it was conducting numerous airstrikes against many Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip and will soon provide more information about these strikes.
In a statement, the IDF says it is preparing to "expand the offensive" by implementing a "wide range of offensive operational plans" which it says include a "joint and coordinated attack from the air, sea and land."
The IDF says it is finalising the draft of hundreds of thousands of reservists, and its logistics directorate is working to provide troops with the equipment they will need for the ground offensive.
Quote: "In recent days, the tools required for combat have been transferred to the assembly areas [...] IDF battalions and soldiers are deployed all over the country and are prepared to increase readiness for the next stages of the war, with an emphasis on a significant ground operation."
Details: The Times of Israel said the military is expected to commence its ground invasion in the Gaza Strip soon, "but its extent and when it is carried out may be affected by operational considerations, including the evacuation of Palestinian civilians from northern Gaza and growing tensions on Israel’s northern border".
Previously: On 12 October, the IDF told the residents of the northern part of the Gaza Strip they had 24 hours to evacuate further south for their safety and said it would continue striking Hamas militants’ targets in Gaza.
Background:
- On 7 October, Hamas launched a large-scale rocket attack on Israel, with fires breaking out in cities. As of the evening of 8 October, the death toll in Israel due to the Hamas attack had exceeded 700, with over 2,200 injured.
- Israeli aircraft conducted further strikes on the Gaza Strip on the night of 8-9 October to "devastate the capabilities of the Hamas terror group". The soldiers have bombed not only the homes of commanders but also the houses of all militants. On Monday, 9 October, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it had attacked 500 Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets overnight.
- On the same day, the IDF also reported that Israeli forces regained control over all settlements on the border with Gaza.
- On 10 October, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Galant said Israel was moving to a "full offense" against the Gaza Strip.
