Israeli strikes kill at least 20 children in Gaza and Lebanon: Health officials

Israeli airstrikes Sunday killed dozens of people, including at least 20 children, in northern Gaza and Lebanon, health authorities said.

The Israeli airstrike in Lebanon killed at least 23, including seven children in a village north of Beirut. There was no evacuation warning, and it was no where near where the militant group Hezbollah has a major presence, The Associated Press reported.

In northern Gaza, an Israeli airstrike landed on a home sheltering displaced people in the Jabalia camp, killing at least 17 people, including nine women, according to Fadel Naim, the director of the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City.

Israel’s military said it was targeting a site where militants operated but did not provide evidence. For both airstrikes, details were under review, the AP reported.

Another strike hit a house in Gaza City, killing Wael al-Khour, a minister in Hamas’s government, and his wife and three kids, the government’s civil defense responders said, according to the AP.

The strikes come as the world watched both the results of the U.S. presidential election and the conversations between President-elect Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump and Netanyahu have had three phone calls since Election Day, according to the prime minister.

With foreign relations at an uncertain point for the U.S. ahead of an administration change, the world is watching as Trump prepares to take office again.
