ISW: Ukrainian forces advance in Dnipro’s eastern bank and in the south while Russians advance near Avdiyivka
According to the latest ISW war assessment, both Ukrainian and Russian armies conducted their offensive campaigns on 17-18 November 2023 with minor advances on both sides. On 18 November 2023, the ISW reported that Ukrainian forces advanced southwestward in Krynky village on the eastern bank of the Dnipro river. Pushing Russians back from the river will alleviate pressure on Ukraine’s bridgehead and make it easier to bring supplies to Ukrainian troops holding it. Geolocated footage confirmed these new gains. The Ukrainian General Staff reported on November 18 that Ukrainian forces repelled 12 Russian attacks on the east bank of Kherson Oblast.
Also, Ukrainian troops made minor advances westward from Robotyne in the southern frontline, expanding their penetration of Russian defense in the direction by up to 1 km. These gains were also confirmed by geolocated footage. While some Russian military bloggers later reported that Russian troops counterattacked, there was no confirmation to support these claims.
At the same time, Russian troops continued their offensive around the east Ukrainian city of Avdiyivka, making several minor advances from the north. In particular, geolocated footage published on 18 November indicates that Russian forces marginally advanced north of the Avdiivka Coke Plant and in the industrial zone on Avdiivka’s southeastern outskirts. Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Spokesperson Colonel Oleksandr Shtupun reported that Ukrainian forces are anticipating that Russian forces will launch a third wave of assaults on Avdiivka and may soon intensify artillery preparations for the assaults.
Also, Russian forces recently marginally advanced west and southwest of Donetsk City in Marinka village, according to geolocated footage posted on 17 November 2023.
