Kosovo announces its first-ever military aid packages for Ukraine

The partially recognized Republic of Kosovo will provide two packages of military aid to Ukraine, Kosovo’s Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci said during the 20th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) held on 19 March at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

On 19 March, defense ministers and military leaders from 50 countries gathered at the 20th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group alliance to coordinate their efforts in helping Ukraine’s security amid Russia’s war.

“Today at the meeting of the UDCG, I announced our second military aid package for Ukraine, consisting of mortar rounds,” Maqedonci wrote on X.

It’s the second package of military aid for Ukraine. According to the minister, the first package containing trucks, tactical vehicles, and armored personnel carriers will be delivered to Ukraine next week.

“Kosovo will continue to support Ukraine in its heroic war against Russian aggression,” the country’s Defense ministry wrote.

This marks the first time the partially recognized state has provided military assistance to Ukraine.

Kosovo is among the countries that have condemned Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and supported EU sanctions against Moscow. Kosovo also joined the G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine in August 2023.
