Latvia proposes to ban Russian grain imports into EU

Minister of Transport of Latvia Kaspars Briškens has proposed to ban the import of Russian and Belarusian grain into the EU, LSM has reported.

Briškens has called Russian grain “bloody” and asked the ministry to prepare an analysis of the potential consequences of implementing the ban on imports. The minister has also initiated discussions with his Estonian and Lithuanian counterparts on this matter.

“I believe that the Baltic countries should have a joint position on the decision,” said the minister, adding that he would try to convince EU countries to ban the import of Russian and Belarusian grain as part of the next sanctions package.

In December, Lithuania transferred several million rounds of ammunition and several thousand rounds of ammunition for portable short-range anti-tank grenade launchers to Ukraine.

In addition to the ongoing transfer of military equipment and hardware, Lithuania is also actively training Ukrainian soldiers, providing medical treatment and rehabilitation, expert advice, and contributing to international funds for Ukraine.
