During a joint press briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Riga, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs stated it was time for partners to change the pattern of “supporting Ukraine as long as it takes” rhetoric and pledge support until full victory instead.
“In my opinion, it is time to change the emphasis. We have often said that we will support Ukraine for as long as needed. But the main political signal must be that we will support Ukraine until its full victory over Russian imperialism,” he emphasized.
He assured that Latvia would continue providing aid to Ukraine at state and societal levels, noting that the volume of assistance already exceeded 1% of Latvia’s GDP.
Rinkēvičs also announced Latvia’s next military aid package, including howitzers, artillery shells, and anti-tank weapons.
The Latvian president also announced that Ukraine and Latvia would sign a memorandum of cooperation in the military sphere on Thursday, concerning the production of inexpensive drones, as well as an aid agreement to help rebuild Ukraine focused on supporting Chernihiv Oblast.
