Comedian Bill Maher slammed former President Trump over his rhetoric around the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the wake of Hurricane Helene, and his attacks on Vice President Harris, calling the GOP nominee is an “inveterate liar.”
During Friday's edition of "Real Time with Bill Maher," conservative pundit Buck Sexton — a Trump ally — targeted Harris for abandoning some of her past policy positions.
“You can count about a dozen different things that Kamala Harris was very much in favor for four years ago, that she is no longer in favor for now," Sexton said in remarks highlighted by Mediaite, adding later that "When she is pushed on it, she says something like, ‘I haven’t changed my values.’ I mean, you know, this isn’t like an eighth-grade social studies lecture.”
While Maher agreed with Sexton that the Democratic nominee had flipped some of her positions, he added that "all politicians do." Then, he turned his attention toward Trump.
“Trump’s superpower is that he is so f---ing insane! I mean, he is such a ... an inveterate liar about anything he just pulls out of his a-- at any time that that’s just baked into the cake and people accept that,” Maher said during the panel discussion.
“First there was the hurricane stuff,” he added, referring to GOP claims that FEMA was stealing money from victims and inadequately prepared to handle hurricane relief efforts in the Southeastern U.S. “Just making s*** up about the hurricane!"
The comedian's comments come after Trump slammed the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene late last month as “weak.” He also claimed that FEMA does not have sufficient personnel on the ground to help out in the regions devastated by the hurricane, a statement the agency's director, Deanne Criswell, said was “completely false.”
The White House also refuted the allegations.
Maher criticized the former president for putting the blame on Harris and suggesting she took the FEMA funds 'as if she stole it from a bank and spent it on housing illegal immigrants.”
He also hit Trump over his seemingly close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We found out he calls Putin regularly,” Maher said on Friday, referencing new information detailed in veteran journalist Bob Woodward's forthcoming book "War.”
“That when there was only a few COVID tests here in this country, he sent one to his buddy, Putin," the host continued. "He said, if Kamala’s elected, it’d be the last real election. I’m rubber your glue much?”
He also weighed in on the former president's critique of Harris's recent interview on CBS's "60 Minutes."
“She went on 60 Minutes. He said after that what she did was totally illegal,” Maher said Friday. “Going on 60 Minutes? That CBS should lose their license for it, and she should be forced to concede the election.”
Harris went on ‘60 Minutes’ where she was pressed on her economic agenda and perceived flip flopping on policy positions. She was also questioned about her stances regarding fracking, immigration and Medicare.
Trump went after ‘60 Minutes,’ whose interview he pulled out of according to the network, suggesting the news magazine selectively edited parts of the interview to make the vice president look better.
“My point is, this is his superpower," Maher said. "You don’t even notice the insanity because it is ubiquitous."
