Marco Rubio's son scores first touchdown in Florida Gators bowl game
Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio's son, Anthony, scored his first touchdown in the Gasparilla Bowl against Tulane, sparking a wild celebration.
Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio praised his son Anthony, a walk-on player for the Florida Gators, who scored his first touchdown in the school's Gasparilla Bowl on Friday night.
"Happy my son scored," the secretary of State nominee posted on X. "But what I am truly proud of is the joy from his teammates and that he gave all the glory to God."
Anthony Rubio, a running back, scored in the waning minutes of the game against Tulane. Florida won, 33-8. The touchdown set off a frenzy among his teammates, with the celebration drawing a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The redshirt freshman was in his first game of the season on Friday night.
In an interview with ESPN after the game, Anthony Rubio said the team's celebration was "insane."
"I want to thank God for that. It wouldn't have happened" but for Him, Rubio said. "That was a great experience."
