Marines: Ukraine forces secured several bridgeheads in Kherson Oblast

Ukraine’s defense forces conducted a series of successful actions on the Russian-controlled eastern left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson sector, securing several bridgeheads. The Ukrainian Marine Corps reported this on its Facebook page.

“As a result of pre-planned measures to repel the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian Defence Forces conducted a series of successful actions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson sector. Thanks to their courage and professionalism, the Ukrainian Marines, in cooperation with other units of the Defence Forces, managed to secure several footholds,” the Marines wrote.

The Marine Corps says in the course of the Ukrainian operation, the Russian troops lost 1,216 troops as killed in action, and 2,217 as wounded, with additional losses in equipment including 24 tanks, 89 artillery pieces and mortars, 48 armored combat vehicles and 14 watercraft.

Natalia Humeniuk, head of the Joint Coordination Press Centre of the Defence and Security Forces of the South, confirmed on the air of the “Suspilne. Resistance” telethon that there are certain achievements of the Defence Forces on the Dnipro’s left bank in Kherson Oblast.

“This is an achievement not only of the Marines, but also of all units of the Southern Defence Forces [including] border guards, National Guard, territorial defense, and various special forces. It’s a lot of work that has been going on for a long time, and now we can talk about some results,” said Humeniuk.

The Ukrainian President’s Office chief, Andrii Yermak, was the first Ukrainian official to confirm that Ukrainian forces have secured a bridgehead in the area, but then Natalia Humeniuk called for “informational silence” regarding the matter.

“Against all odds, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have gained a foothold on the left (east) bank of the Dnipro,” Yermak said in an address to the Hudson Institute think-tank in the United States on 14 November.

Previously, Humeniuk had announced that the time would come when it would be possible to talk about the success of the Defence Forces, but she reminded that there was no need to make too much noise about it.

“We need to understand that all this has been achieved with enormous hard work, sweat and blood, and the enemy is closely monitoring our work, including in the information space. Every morning when we hear some reports, it turns into shelling and bombing, and all this affects the lives of the local population. We cannot cause additional suffering to the locals who are already suffering under occupation,” said Natalia Humeniuk.

In its November 14 Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said it continued to assess that Ukrainian forces had been conducting larger-than-usual ground operations on the east bank of Kherson Oblast since mid-October 2023 and that Ukrainian forces appear to be able to maintain and supply their current positions on the Russian-controlled side of Kherson Oblast.

ISW also reported that on 9 November, Ukrainian troops established continuous control over positions from the Antonivskyi railway bridge north of Poima to the Antonivsky road bridge north of Oleshky and cut the Oleshky-Nova Kakhovka road in at least two areas.
