Moldovan President joins Zelenskyy to honor victims of Revolution of Dignity and Freedom

On 21 November, The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu arrived in Ukraine, the President’s Office reported.

Accompanying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska, Sandu paid tribute to activists killed during Ukraine’s 2014 Revolution of Dignity.

According to Ukraine’s Presidential Office, the leaders placed memorial lamps at the Heavenly Hundred Heroes Cross in Kyiv’s Alley of Heavenly Hundred Heroes. They also honoured the memories of fallen protesters in front of their portraits.

“Together with Zelenskyy and First Lady, I honoured all those who stood for freedom and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their legacy lives on,” Maia Sandu wrote on X (Twitter).

Maia Sandu also said that she would meet with Zelenskyy to discuss the next steps in EU accession of Moldova and Ukraine, enhancing regional security, and the EU’s continued support of reforms and development in our countries.

Moldova has supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia since the full-scale invasion. On 23 August, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean, during which the ministers agreed to control state borders jointly. According to Shmyhal, the ministers also discussed cooperation on further European integration of the countries.

Previously, the Moldovan parliament also ratified an agreement between the governments of Moldova and Ukraine on the construction of a bridge across the Dnister, which will be 641 meters long to connect the Ukrainian city of Yampil and the Moldovan border village of Cosauti.
