Quote: "We have set up a parliamentary group on reparations, compensation and indemnities for Poland from Germany and an assessment of the amount of compensation for Poland from Russia for damage caused during World War II, in accordance with the Sejm resolution of 14 September 2022."

Details: As Mularczyk noted, the group included Jarosław Kaczyński, the Law and Justice party president, Piotr Gliński, Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and other Law and Justice politicians, including Marek Kuchciński, Kazimierz Smoliński, Waldemar Buda, Marek Ast and Piotr Babinec.

Mularczyk stressed that the issue of paying reparations to Poland for its losses in World War II "will not disappear from the national and international political scene".

Background:

  • On 1 September 2022, Poland presented a report on the losses suffered by Poland as a result of Nazi aggression and occupation during World War II.
  • On 3 October last year, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note to the German side on war reparations. Poland demands, among other things, compensation for tangible and intangible damages in the amount of PLN 6.2 trillion (about US$1.32 trillion), as well as compensation for the damage caused.
  • The German government said that the issue of reparations and war compensations remains closed, and the German government does not intend to enter into any talks on this issue again.
  • Poland has also promised to prepare a report on reparations to be collected from Russia for the damage caused during World War II.
