Details: The minister said that farmers will block the motorway that runs through the Polish-Lithuanian border starting at 11:00, despite intensive negotiations with the relevant Polish Ministry.

"The initial information was a full blockade, then it changed to passenger cars, now it changed to selective, and, finally, to normal procedures. What this means, we will only find out tomorrow morning "normal procedures". What this means, we will only find out tomorrow morning," Navickas said.

The protest is planned on the roadway between the Polish city of Budzisko and the Lithuanian city of Kalvarija. The protest will last for one week.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė previously expressed the opinion that the protest of Polish farmers looks like a hybrid operation of the Russian secret services to turn Ukraine's allies against each other.

Background:

  • Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis also said that protests of Polish farmers are similar to "hybrid operations which are intensively exploited by Russian propaganda."
  • The Lithuanian economy minister stressed that such protests violate the EU principle of the free movement of goods and people.
  • At the same time, Konstanty Radziwiłł, Polish ambassador to Lithuania, called for not assuming that the Kremlin was behind the protests, noting that farmers' protests are taking place across the EU and that most of the farmers' claims against European institutions are justified.
