Ukrainian power plants were the main target of the Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine in the small hours of 20 June.

Details: The energy company notes that this was the seventh massive Russian attack on the energy system since 22 March. 

Quote: "The latest information suggests it was a combined missile and drone attack. The main target was, again, Ukrainian power plants." 

The attack damaged equipment at power facilities in the Vinnytsiia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk oblasts. The networks of regional power companies in Kyiv Oblast were also damaged. 

Quote: "The damage is being examined. Emergency repair works have begun where the security situation allows." 

Background:

  • In Ukraine, seven workers were injured in the latest attacks at two energy facilities on 20 June.
  • On Thursday, power companies increased electricity consumption restrictions from 11:00 due to the Russian attack, and regional power companies will report on how this will affect power restriction schedules.
  • On 20 June, civilian energy infrastructure facilities were damaged in four oblasts of Ukraine as a result of a Russian night attack.
  • The Russian military attacked the DTEK thermal power plant, the largest private investor in the energy industry in Ukraine, as a result of which three power engineers were injured, and the plant's equipment was also seriously damaged.
  • On Thursday, 20 June, from 00:00 to 06:00, hourly power restriction schedules are cancelled; from 06:00 to 24:00, consumption will be limited according to the schedules established by regional power companies.
