Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Qatar’s contribution of $20 million to the “Grain from Ukraine” initiative following a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Qatar’s crucial mediating role and the personal stance of Sheikh Tamim in the return of Ukrainian children unlawfully deported by Russia. Further coordination in this matter was discussed.
Zelenskyy highlighted Qatar’s contribution and assured that Ukraine, despite Russia’s attempts to disrupt peaceful navigation in the Black Sea, will continue to guarantee global food security. The conversation also detailed continued efforts on Ukraine’s Peace Formula and the organization of the upcoming Global Peace Summit.
Zelenskyy invited a Qatari representative for the next advisory meeting in Davos, emphasizing the importance of Qatar’s role in international peace efforts.
In five months, almost 15 million tons of cargo have been exported through the Ukrainian Black Sea shipping corridor, according to Oleksandr Kubrakov, Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
