The Biden administration has revealed data about which the US states have received billions of dollars in investments for arming Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, Reuters reported.
While key Republican members of Congress have voted against funding Ukraine, data shows their states are major recipients. Pennsylvania has received $2.364 billion – the most of any state – for arms and ammo production. According to Reuters, 3 of their 8 GOP representatives voted ‘no.’ Texas got $1.45 billion for shells and weapons, though 18 of 25 GOP lawmakers opposed the funding.
“During his latest $106 billion aid request, President Joe Biden emphasized that arms for Ukraine equals jobs for Americans,” Reuters reported.
Companies in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Texas and Wisconsin are getting over $1 billion in Ukraine-related contracts.
Biden also noted that some of the money goes to US companies to replace equipment sent overseas, citing Patriot missile systems made by Raytheon in Arizona and “artillery shells manufactured in 12 states across the country,” naming Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas.
Still, Reuters says further support faces hurdles, with new House Speaker Mike Johnson separating Israel’s aid from Ukraine’s. Most House Democrats back Ukraine funding, while Johnson and allies voted ‘no’ repeatedly pre-speakership.
“A vocal bloc of Republicans has opposed sending aid to Ukraine, saying taxpayer money should be spent at home,” mentioned in the report, “but a majority still support aiding Kyiv.”
