Details: The ministry drew attention to a "document" circulating online about the "training of Ukrainian pilots" in 2024.
They emphasise that the document is a blatant forgery, created by distorting information from the actual report on the activities of Romania's Ministry of Defence for 2023 and containing numerous errors.
"This so-called 'information', which was given a title to mimic an official report, attempts to lend credibility to the false claim that Ukrainian pilots have already begun training at the European F-16 Training Centre in Fetești," the ministry said.
Romania added that the first cohort of pilots had indeed recently completed their training at the centre, but they were all Romanian citizens.
The Romanian Ministry of Defence highlights that this is not the first instance of disinformation about F-16s being spread via Telegram, and warns that such attempts will persist amid Russia's illegal and unjustified war against Ukraine.
Background: Earlier, The Times indicated that Ukraine had received its first F-16s, though the information was not officially confirmed.
