Russian forces launched nearly 900 aerial bombs, over 300 Shahed drones, and more than 40 missiles against Ukraine in the past week alone, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The president made these statements in response to a Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia on 29 September, which injured 13 people, with two rescued from under rubble.
“This Russian terror knows no pauses, and it can only be stopped by the unity of the world – unity in support of Ukraine and unity in pressure on Russia for the war,” Zelensky said.
Since last month, Russian troops have intensified their military offensive against Ukraine, resulting in a significant spike in civilian casualties. The United Nations reported that 184 civilians, including eight children, were killed in Ukraine in August 2024. The intensification of attacks, primarily through missile strikes, aerial bombardments, and artillery fire, has continued into September.
The United Nations reports that since 24 February 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 11,743 civilians have been killed and 24,614 injured due to combat operations.
