The Polish Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported on the morning of 24 March that during the Russian air attack on Ukraine, one cruise missile flew into Polish air space and stayed there for 39 seconds

The Russian military attacked Ukraine with 29 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and 28 drones overnight into 24 March. Most of the air targets were directed to the western part of Ukraine. Some Russian cruise missiles reportedly were flying along the Ukrainian-Polish border and hit critical infrastructure in Lviv Oblast.

According to the Polish Operational Command’s statement, on 24 March at 4.23 am, Polish airspace was violated by one of the cruise missiles launched by Russia’s long-range aviation. “The strikes were aimed at settlements in western Ukraine,” said the statement.

“The object flew into Polish space over the village of Osierdów (Lublin Voyevodstvo) and stayed there for 39 seconds. Military radar systems monitored it throughout the flight,” the statement said.

Polish and Allied aircraft were reportedly taken into the air.

It’s not the first time Poland has activated its air defense forces amid the Russian attack on Ukraine. Since the end of 2023, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported the violation of Polish airspace by Russian targets.
