Russian night attack on Ukraine killed 3, injured at least 6, hit thermal power plant

Overnight into 24 December, the Russian army shelled the central part of Kherson, the Kherson Oblast head, Oleksandr Produkin, said.

An artillery shell hit a residential building and injured a family. Three people died, including elderly ones, an 87-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife. A 54-year-old resident of Kherson sustained blast trauma, contusion and leg injuries.

In its night attack, Russia hit DTEK’s thermal power plant, injuring five company workers, Donbas Fuel and Energy Company reported. This is the tenth attack on a frontline thermal power plant in the last two months.

On the night of 24 December, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 15 Shahed UAV drones from the area of Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, Ukraine’s Air Forces reported.

Ukraine’s Air Defences systems shot down 14 of the 15 Shahed drones over Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Khmelnytskyi oblasts.

In the late evening of 23 December, the Russian military struck critical infrastructure in Kherson, Oleksandr Produkin said. The Russian attack resulted in a rupture in the gas networks and the destruction of the city’s medical facilities. Seven people were injured, including a 15-year-old teenager, according to Produkin.
