On 27 February, Russian troops deliberately attacked a group of Ukrainian police officers documenting the aftermath of earlier shelling in the village of Khotin, Sumy Oblast.

Russian forces have previously carried out repeated strikes targeting rescuers and police officers in various oblasts of Ukraine.

“Police officers do not leave civilians even in the hottest spots. Constantly risking their lives, remaining faithful to the Oath. And today’s tragedy proves that these are not just words,” Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, two officers were killed instantly under the rubble, and six others were injured.
