Russian strikes claim lives in Kharkiv Oblast: two dead recovered from rubble in Borova

In the town of Borova, Kharkiv Oblast, two lives were lost as a result of Russian shelling, with the bodies of a 55-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man retrieved from the rubble of a collapsed building.

The Kharkiv Oblast Police, sharing the news on their Facebook page, confirmed the casualties and provided details about the incident.

“In Borova, due to shelling, two civilians lost their lives – a 55-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man. Their bodies were recovered from the ruins of completely destroyed private houses,” stated Vladimir Tymoshko, the Chief of the Regional Police Department.

Tymoshko further elaborated on the nature of the attacks in Kharkiv, revealing the sequence of strikes that occurred in the region.

“There were two waves of shelling in Kharkiv. First with missiles (it has been established that two Iskander-M missiles hit the city center, and three S-300 missiles hit the Industrial District), then with Shahed UAVs. 28 people were injured, including two children. All were civilians,” explained Tymoshko.

The aftermath of the attacks resulted in widespread destruction, with residential buildings, shops, hotels, cafes, office spaces, and vehicles suffering damage. “Fires erupted in buildings, and numerous structures were damaged. All relevant services quickly arrived at the sites hit by Russian missiles and UAVs,” added Tymoshko.

Over 50 buildings bore the brunt of the strikes, with shattered windows and extensive damage reported. Tymoshko highlighted that the police have taken measures to secure these structures.

Throughout the previous day, Russian forces targeted the territories of Kupiansk, Derhachi, and Vovchansk. Tymoshko reported that the attacks on civilian settlements included artillery fire, mortar shelling, and the use of aviation.

Explosions rocked Kharkiv during the night of December 31, as “Shahed” drones launched an attack, leading to fires in the city center.
