Russian strikes on Kherson market and Zaporizhzhia high-rise kill seven civilians
Russia's bombing of a residential area in Zaporizhzhia and artillery shelling of a marketplace in Kherson killed at least seven Ukrainians and injured nine others.
On 1 October, Russian forces continued targeting civilian areas in Ukrainian cities. A Russian artillery attack on Kherson’s central market and a bomb assault on Zaporizhzhia’s residential areas killed seven locals and injured nine more. Local authorities reported significant damage to buildings and infrastructure.
In Kherson, Russians targeted the city’s central market, killing six people and injuring three others, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Oblast Military Administration and a later update from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“The occupiers attacked the market in the center of Kherson. Trading points where Kherson residents were buying or selling products in the morning were under attack,” Prokudin reported.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian forces conducted multiple airstrikes using guided bombs. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration, reported that the city was hit by six strikes, targeting residential areas and infrastructure facilities.
The first explosions in Zaporizhzhia were heard at 11:48, with subsequent blasts at 11:54 and 12:08. An air raid alert was declared in the city at 11:37.
“They hit residential areas and infrastructure facilities. At the moment, we know about two wounded. Information about destruction and the condition of people is being clarified,” Fedorov initially stated.
Later updates from Fedorov revealed that one person had been killed and five others injured in the Zaporizhzhia attacks. He shared photos showing a damaged high-rise building with shattered windows and a damaged facade.
The attacks on both cities have resulted in a total of seven deaths and nine injuries, according to the latest reports from local officials.
