Quote: "The enemy is trying to storm us around the clock. Attacks do not stop. They are trying to recapture Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. This is really a strategic railway junction, which they are trying to grab hold of and are striking at the crossings, at all the facilities that can cut us off from Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi.
Yes, they are really trying to encircle Kupiansk. This is their goal. We understand this goal. The enemy is suffering losses, but is quickly recovering from them by deploying additional forces.
We do not feel that there are fewer Russians. We know that they are trying to repeat the assault in the near future. The situation is very difficult."
Background:
- The latest data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shows that Ukrainian troops repelled about five attacks by Russians on the Kupiansk front over the past day, in particular near the village of Ivanivka (Kharkiv Oblast).
- UK intelligence stated on 18 October that over the previous two weeks, Russian occupation forces had increased their offensive activity on the Kupiansk-Lyman front, but that a significant operational breakthrough by the Russian army there was unlikely.
- The Institute for the Study of War stated on 6 October that offensive operations by the Russians on the Kupiansk front were resumed but there was no possibility of success for the "degraded elements" of Russian forces operating in this area.
