Russians disseminate fakes about man killed by Ukrainian border guards

On 13 July, a Ukrainian citizen's body was discovered on Moldovan territory near the Ukrainian border (Chernivtsi Oblast). Almost a week later, Russian news agencies and propagandists were actively disseminating information that the man had been killed by gunfire fired by Ukrainian border guards. Ukraine's State Border Guard Service stated that Russians are disseminating disinformation.

Source: Andrii Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda

Quote: "Pro-Russian resources and Russian media are currently actively disseminating false and provocative material, claiming that a man who illegally entered Moldova died from Ukrainian border guards’ bullets.

This material is false, provocative, and was distributed to defame Ukrainian State Border Guard Service representatives and destabilise the situation in our state.

On 13 July, representatives of the Republic of Moldova's border police received information that on Moldovan territory, opposite the Sokyriany section of the Chernivtsi border detachment, a few hundred metres from the state border, a local resident discovered the body of a man who showed no signs of life. There were no signs of a violent death."

Details: The spokesperson mentioned that several Moldovan news agencies reported on the discovery of the human body back then.

Demchenko also stated that Moldova and Ukraine held a meeting of border guard representatives. At the meeting, it was noted that the individual was a Ukrainian citizen.

Moldovan representatives assured the Ukrainian side that they will be informed about the cause of the man's death after the appropriate examinations are carried out.
