Russia’s elite units suffer more losses in year-long battle for Vuhledar than in 10 years in Chechnya. Two elite Russian naval infantry brigades may have lost up to 40% of their pre-war strength in failed assaults on the Ukrainian town of Vuhledar, according to an analysis by BBC.

Intelligence and technology

Latvia raises over $ 219 thousand in aid for Azov brigade. A Latvian aid package containing over 100 domestically produced FPV drones is set to be delivered to Ukrainian fighters in October.

Ukraine’s Intelligence Chief Budanov Calls for sanctions on components used in Russian missiles. Russia kills 177 Ukrainian POWs in captivity. Despite approximately 3,600 POWs and deported citizens being exchanged and returned, thousands still remain unaccounted for, with fears that the true death toll could be significantly higher due to the lack of international oversight.

Russians reportedly execute 16 Ukrainian POWs from two units in Donbas. In October, a video surfaced showing the execution of 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers in the Pokrovske direction, triggering a criminal investigation by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).

Ukrainian prosecutors say Russians executed 93 Ukrainian POWs. Officials report that 80% of executions of Ukrainian POWs by Russian troops occurred in 2024, marking an alarming escalation in violations of war laws.
