"Her unsurpassed authentic voice, which was truly magical, and her lyrical and folk songs will stay with us forever. She performed carols, spring songs, summer solstice songs, harvest and reaping songs, wedding songs and lullabies… [All of these songs] will live forever in our culture, our music, and our memory," Zelenskyy said.
He added that Matviienko was a People’s Artist "in every sense of the word".
"My sincere condolences to family and friends. Blessed be her memory!" Zelenskyy said.
Matviienko’s wake will be held on 11 October at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
