Sikorski: Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has called for immediate European action on defense spending and migration policy as US election results emerge.
Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has called for immediate European action to strengthen its security capabilities, reports Ukrinform.
The statement follows the initial result of the US presidential election, where Republican Donald Trump reportedly took a mono-majority, 277 votes within 270 needed to take the post.
Trump claimed during his presidential campaign that the US must focus on internal spending rather than on helping Ukraine to defend itself from Russian aggression.
“Europe must immediately take greater responsibility for its security through defense spending and decisions on migration policy. Poland is doing what its allies are only beginning to do,” Sikorski said during a media briefing addressing the US elections.
According to the Polish diplomat, Poland maintains political contacts with both Democrats and Republicans. Sikorski confirmed he constantly communicates with Donald Trump’s top security representatives.
The minister emphasized Poland’s potential leadership role in strengthening EU resilience, citing renewed trust within the EU and good relations with the United States as key factors.
