NATO and Ukrainian officials plan to convene next week for discussions on Russia’s ongoing air campaign against Ukraine, marked by large waves of attacks in recent days, Voice of America reports.

NATO spokesperson Dylan White announced on 4 January that NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will convene the NATO-Ukraine Council on 10 January, in response to recent Russian missile and drone attacks.

According to Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy, Russia has launched at least 500 missiles and drones against Ukraine over the past week.

Ukrainian officials have urged allies to strengthen the nation’s air defenses, as Russia continues its daily missile and drone assaults on Ukrainian cities. Over the past week, two of the most intense nights of Russian attacks occurred, with dozens of missiles and drones targeting the capital, Kyiv.

On January 3, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba highlighted the importance of bolstering Ukrainian air defenses in the upcoming NATO-Ukraine Council meeting. He termed the talks an “important sign of Euro-Atlantic unity in the face of Russian terror escalation.”

A day prior, Kuleba urged allies to expedite the delivery of air defense systems, ammunition, combat drones, and missiles with over 300-kilometer ranges to Ukrainian forces. He also sought approvals for utilizing seized Russian assets to aid Ukraine and for isolating Russian diplomats.
