Sweden to send its largest aid package worth over $ 680 million to Ukraine
The country's 15th assistance package to Ukraine includes Stridsbåt 90 fast military assault craft and TOW anti-tank missiles.
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson has announced that Stockholm will send Ukraine its largest support package yet, worth nearly $683 million.
Sweden has been a long-term supporter of Ukraine, condemning Russia’s war and supplying the country with military equipment, such as Archer mobile artillery pieces.
“Ukraine is not only defending its own freedom but that of all of Europe. Sweden will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes. Russia cannot be allowed to win this war,” Jonson said on X.
The new package for Ukraine includes:
- Artillery ammunition
- RBS70 air defense system
- TOW anti-tank missiles
- Hand grenades
- Carl Gustaf grenade launchers
- Ten Stridsbåt CB90-class fast assault craft or combat boats
- 20 group boats
- Underwater weapons
In addition, Sweden will also donate medical supplies and economic aid to procure more weapons for Ukraine.
The aid package includes nearly $96 million for Sweden and Denmark’s joint purchase of CV 90 armored vehicles for Ukraine. Another $38 million will be allocated to different educational initiatives for Ukrainians.
“Sweden will, by these donations, also join the maritime coalition. Sweden is already a member of the drone, demining, airforce, and armor coalition,” Jonson added.
According to the minister, the package “meets some of Ukraine’s most pressing needs and is in line with the military capability coalitions that are taking shape within the Ukraine Defence Contact Group.”
