The White House is so sure that House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) funding bill will pass the Senate that President Trump hasn't bothered to reach out to Democrats to make sure they have the support, according to a new article in Politico.In fact, Trump slammed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) this week, "saying he’s 'no longer Jewish' and calling him a Palestinian," wrote columnist Rachael Bade.The GOP needs eight Senate Democrats to back this measure in order to prevent a government shutdown, and Schumer (D-NY) claimed Wednesday that that's not going to happen. However, "President Donald Trump and senior White House officials are increasingly confident Schumer will release enough centrists to put up the votes for passage," according to Bade, who spoke with multiple White House officials. "For weeks they’ve been lambasting Trump and Musk for tearing apart the government. Democrats in a shutdown would effectively have to argue that they’re trying to protect the government by shutting down the government," Bade wrote.She quoted a White House official, saying "The margin we put up [Tuesday] in the House, they completely own it if they shut down the government. And if they do shut down … they’ll get colossally murdered for it."The official added, "They’re 100 percent gonna swallow it. They’re totally screwed.”Still, Bade advised Trump and the White House to remain cautious.They "could very much overstep here," she wrote.
