Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 US presidential election at a campaign event in Palm Beach, Florida, while the official vote count continues.

According to media reports, Trump has secured 267 of the required 270 electoral votes, with Vice President Harris at 224 votes.

NBC News, Fox News, AP, and CNN report Trump’s victory in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania. The Republican Party is reportedly gaining control of the Senate, while House results remain pending.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Trump on what he called an “impressive” victory.

“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer,” Zelenskyy saidwrote in X.

Foreign leaders have begun issuing congratulatory messages even though the official results have not been announced.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban described it as “the biggest comeback in US political history,” while Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto suggested that “there is more chance than ever for peace to be established” in Ukraine after nearly a thousand days of war.

Trump has a warm relationship with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is also friendly with Putin and openly against aid to Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated Trump on the alleged victory in the elections, saying, “Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”

Trump said before he wouldn’t commit to approving additional US aid to Ukraine if reelected.  However, his isolationist strategy aims for a “very quick” resolution to the war and pressuring Ukraine into ceding Russian-occupied territories to the Kremlin.

During his campaign, Trump criticized spending billions on Ukraine’s defense, saying that Kyiv “won’t win the war.”

He previously claimed he could end the war by speaking with the Ukrainian and Russian presidents while maintaining that Putin’s peace negotiation terms were “unacceptable.”

before the meeting with Zelenslyy in late September, Trump criticized the Ukrainian President, calling him “the greatest salesman on Earth” for securing US support.
