Details: Many anti-Ukrainian right-wing politicians believe that Donald Trump shares their hostility towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, Trump noted that he liked Zelenskyy.
"I had a good relationship with Zelenskyy…I like him. Because during the impeachment hoax … he could have said he didn’t know the [conversation] was taped. … But instead of grandstanding and saying, ‘Yes, I felt threatened,’ he said, ‘He [Trump] did absolutely nothing wrong’," Trump noted.
At a press conference on 27 September during a meeting in New York, Trump was fulsome in his praise of Zelenskyy, saying that the Ukrainian president was like "a piece of steel" during the attempted impeachment of Trump.
Trump stated that thanks to Zelenskyy, "the impeachment hoax died right there". After their meeting, Trump said: "I learned a lot. We both want to see this [war] end, and we both want to see a fair deal made, and it’s going to be fair."
When Trump was asked whether he would keep his word, he replied: "I did say that, so I can say it to you. But I did say that and nobody picked it up. They don’t because it makes so much sense."
Background: After his meeting with Zelenskyy in New York, Trump claimed that if he loses the election, the war in Ukraine will turn into World War III.
