Details: Sunak said another group of Ukrainian soldiers completed their training in the UK this week, boarded their transports and headed home.
"As always, their route was lined with British soldiers applauding their Ukrainian brothers and sisters – because they know that you are fighting for values that we share," the UK prime minister said.
Sunak stated that a total of 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers have completed their training in the UK, including artillerymen, marines, engineers, combat medics and more, not to mention the 22,000 Ukrainian soldiers trained by the UK before the 2022 Russian invasion.
"We are working with our allies and partners to deliver the support you need to keep up the pressure on Putin’s forces," Sunak stressed.
"Together with you and our allies, we will support Ukraine to realise its destiny as a secure, thriving European democracy," he added.
Background:
- In late September, UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said the UK would continue to support Ukraine and would train 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of the year.
- Operation Interflex, a training programme for Ukrainian soldiers provided by 10 allied countries, is ongoing in the UK.
- At one point it was reported in the media that the number of training sessions for Ukrainian military personnel at an army base in Kent, UK, had been reduced after local residents complained about the noise during training drills.
